1st Day of School

One of my favorite things growing up was going school shopping with my mom. The day always included new clothes, new shoes, school supplies, and lunch. I loved it! Now, I realize that this is a little overboard, seeing as Ella is only 3...and it's only Joy School, but since Ella's been needing some new clothes and shoes anyway, I couldn't resist a little mother/daughter school shopping trip of our own, complete with lunch. We didn't find any shoes, but we did find some cute clothes. This dress was what Ella choose for the first day of school. I can't wait until next year when we get to add school supplies to our shopping list (I'm a dork, I know)!!!

Oh yeah, and Ella had fun at Joy School too.

Peanut Butter Preoccupation

Ella: Mom, what's that smell!
Me: What smell?
Ella: The smell that's in my nose.
Me: I don't know. What does it smell like?
Ella: Peanut butter and dragon berry jelly sandwiches.
Me: Do you want some?
Ella: No.

Later.

Ella (eating a plain glazed donut): Mom, this donut tastes like peanut butter! It's good.

I wonder what the sudden interest in peanut butter is all about. We don't really eat peanut butter at our house (maybe twice in the last year), and she's mentioned it twice in less than 24 hours. I offered her Pb & dbj* sandwiches for lunch, but she politely declined. I guess she just wants to talk about it, not eat it.

*dbj=dragon berry jelly: Anything purple, and slightly berry-ish is a dragon berry at our house. (A remnant of Ella's "Dragon Tales" watching days).

Knock Knock

Ella started saying some not-very-nice-words, and telling us that she is just telling "silly jokes." I'm assuming that this experience is not a unique to us, and I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later, particularly now that she has some school age friends. So, in an attempt to distract her from saying the "garbage" words, we tried to teach her some jokes that she can tell when she is in the mood to be funny. We decided to start with some good, old fashioned knock knock jokes. Unfortunately, we only came up with two good ones. Now we get hear these jokes non-stop (complete with hysterical 3-year-old, laughing-even-though-I-don't-get-the-joke, giggling at the end of each joke).

Knock, Knock.
Who's There?
Boo.
Boo Who?
Don't cry, it's just a joke.

Knock, Knock.
Who's There?
A little old lady.
A little old lady who?
I didn't know you knew how to yodel?

Occasionally we get this variation.

Knock, Knock.
Who's there?
A little old lady.
A little old lady who?
I didn't know you knew a noodle?

If you know any good knock knock jokes we'd be grateful if you shared. :)

Quite Possibly the Smallest Pigtails Ever

Sophie wasn't too keen on the idea of having her picture taken, but I really wanted some visual evidence of her first hair-do.

Re-evaluating my Wholesale Membership Status

Costco. I've been shopping there for the last 6 years, and after my last trip, I'm really wondering why.

Whenever we start running low on diapers or Frosted Mini Wheats, I load up the girls, and head across town to fill up my cart with a 3 months supply of TP, cold cereal, and dryer sheets. But I don't particularly enjoy shopping there. I don't enjoy getting my heals run over by impatient shoppers. I don't like the traffic jams created by people crowding the free sample tables, or jockeying for a parking spot. Come to think of it: I don't really like buying things in bulk... Huh, go figure.

Maybe it's the berry sundaes, or the efficient checkers ... or the ice cream.
I do like their berry sundaes. It's amazing how little it takes to get my loyalty.

Ella's Prayer

Last night Ella said the prayer at dinner.

Pere Celeste,
Merci pour la nuriture,
Merci we are having dinner,
Merci we are having fun,
Merci that mom made dessert,
and that it is for us.

Amen.

Last week I spent most of my time baking treats for a wedding. I guess she noticed that she didn't get to eat any of them. I think she enjoyed dessert last night.

Life's little lessons

When big sister is on her tricycle...

It's best just to stay out of the way.

It's better to catch a baseball with your glove...

than with your forehead.

If you help mom bake, you get to lick the beaters.

Chocolate tastes best before breakfast.

If mom has the camera out then you're not really in trouble.
